Notes:
We managed to create working Sliders and Slicers to adjust our Tar% for our Funds, and simultaneously updates the Tar$_Adj for those specific funds. Increments are by .5% when moving the slider and defaults at 0%, and Tar$_Adj automatically updates based on the corresponding slicer. We created Slider and Slicer 2 to offset the adjusted Fund so that Tar% is recalculated back at 100% based on the variable change. Keeping the initial table intact on the left allows for us to compare with our Tar% adjustments to see how our allocations would change.
Based on the current Power BI visuals, we couldn’t use the dropdown menu, so instead we used a slicer so that we can select the Fund. This works out better as the UI allows for us to scroll down as needed when selecting the Fund.
We’ve initially set Tar% at 70% as our Bal is set to 20%, and Cash is set to 10% so excluded these categories as these are not specifically Funds. However, after further testing on Power BI DAX Measures every time we adjust the Tar%_Adj, Tar$_Adj always miscalculates since Tar% isn’t 100%, and forces the default back to 100%, even though it was initially 70%. As a fix, we appended both queries on the initial table, and added the Bal and Cash rows and columns. In doing so, it automatically updated the other tables, and now Bal and Cash are showing in the Volatility Band and Funds Progression tables. It’s not a material impact, but makes the dashboard look weird if you look closely at the data. We could probably remove these rows manually, but prefer not to mess with any one-offs in case if we decide to adjust our data and visuals later.
For this v2, we’ll keep the default at 0 for both sliders. Once we finalize our updates and make adjustments, we’ll adjust the sliders and slicers accordingly, but it’s great to know that utilizing sliders and slicers in our dashboard to adjust our Tar% and Tar$ would be essential when make our assessments.
