Home-New Window of Opportunity

A window of opportunity is a short, often fleeting time period during which a rare and desired action can be taken. Once the window closes, the opportunity may never come again. (Definition from Investopedia.com).

Two terms that I use often: FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) and YOLO (You Only Live Once). My personality suits more closely with YOLO rather than FOMO, and my experiences meeting with new people surprisingly fits neither.

Not many people would wake up one day and say, fuck it, let’s relocate. I did that twice and I couldn’t be happier. What’s interesting is that even though I’m now an AU Citizen, I don’t feel it. If I don’t open my mouth, they assume I’m a foreigner cause my blue cap says Hugo Boss and I’m wearing a Cancun Beach colored type of T-Shirt. Whenever I do open my mouth and speak, they always ask where I’m from. Even when I’m back in the states, they always assume I’m “originally” NOT from the US. Would it make you happier if I respond back with, I’m a FOB so that you can feel more superior or make me feel more inferior? I mean, it’s 2023, so does it really matter anymore?

I’m a dual citizen, but I’m also a Nomad by choice. The world is developing, so I keep an open mind and learn what I can. If you ask me where my home is, the answer is wherever my family is. It’s not a physical place. It’s the people whom I wake up with and see everyday. That’s where my home is.

Why did I bring this topic up? Based on the past few weeks, I’ve noticed that many people don’t even see it when it’s right in front of them. It makes me wonder sometimes if they’re just oblivious, or humble, or even scared. You should take that leap of faith, and take that window of opportunity when it’s there. Your new adventure awaits.
